Παλμός (palmós), meaning pulse or heartbeat in Greek, is a triptych of moving image and sound that contextualises the heart as a metaphor for emotion and vibration as a connecting element between physical, biological, and social activity.
The work begins with different forms of movement and vibration, exploring how a single impulse can expand from an individual phenomenon into a collective experience. Data derived from a single vibration, a beating heart, and the movement of crowds around a social point of interest are used to navigate the parameters of bespoke software developed for artistic creation. These distinct sources become the basis for evolving visual and sonic compositions, translating physical and biological activity into an abstract audiovisual language.
Moving between computational abstraction and embodied experience, Παλμός traces a trajectory from the singular pulse of the body towards collective resonance. Individual rhythms gradually become part of a larger system, where movements, vibrations and heartbeats coexist and interact, forming an interconnected field.
Across its three parts, the work shifts in scale from the elemental gesture of a vibration to the intimate rhythm of a heartbeat and, finally, to the multiplicity of collective movement. In doing so, Παλμός explores the pulse not only as a biological phenomenon, but as a shared condition: a recurring rhythm through which individual bodies, physical environments and social activity can be perceived as interconnected.
The triptych consists of:
Παλμός α′ / A vibration
Παλμός β′ / A heartbeat
Παλμοί / Pulses
